And for some reason, their love story left a deeper impression than our main couple). (I thought there was more chemistry between the river god and the advisor than the main characters. It was more like curiosity rather than love. Yet, their love seems abrupt and almost incomplete. The story was supposed to centralize on the Ruler of Women’s Land and Tang Sanzang’s budding love being her first time seeing a man and his first time considering the concept of a relationship despite his quest to the west. Like the part where Feng Shaofeng and Liying were just writing on dirt and the love story between the river god and the advisor was a little overemphasized. I think they could have totally cut out or down some scenes and elaborates on others.
It’s contradicting but that’s how I felt after sitting through the whole 114 minutes. I feel like with such a hyped cast and large budget, the movie could have been more centralized? It’s a lot of pack in a 114 minutes film but at the same time….there wasn’t much going on either. The Monkey King 3: Land of the Woman starring Feng Shao Feng and Zhao Liying was like a matryoshka doll where you started out with a giant doll but as you keep peeling thru the layers, all you’re left with is a tiny figure.
So will Tang Sanzang give up on his sacred mission and stay with the queen? search for a way out of this nation surrounded by a vast magical net, it soon transpires, conveniently, that romantic love is the only key to opening the gate. Love nevertheless blossoms between Tang Sanzang and the Womanland’s young queen (Zhao Liying), even though her royal preceptor (Gigi Leung Wing-kei) is hell-bent on sentencing the men to death.
In The Monkey King 3, Buddhist monk Tang Sanzang (William Feng Shaofeng) and his disciples – Wukong the Monkey King (Aaron Kwok Fu-shing), pig demon Bajie (Xiao Shenyang) and the blue-skinned sand demon Wujing (Him Lo Chung-him) – inadvertently enter the Womanland of Western Liang, a nation populated by women raised to believe that men are fatally deceptive in matters of the heart.
